Meet Pastor Parker

Picture
I currently serve as director of communications and technology for the Baptist Convention of New Mexico. I also have two other titles. I serve as editor of the Baptist New Mexican News Journal, the GoBNM.com online news portal, The BNM Weekly news email, and the BCNM Connect mobile app. In all of that, I oversee the convention's use of traditional and emerging media to inform, inspire, and mobilize churches and their members into the Great Commission. Last, I travel and serve as the convention's regional missionary to New Mexico's western mountain region, a vast area that stretches from Socorro west to the Arizona state line. It is frontier country with seven Southern Baptist churches. Four of them are heated with wood stoves and the warm hearts of wonderful saints who live in remote areas. Of course, my work includes more than described here, but that's enough for now.

I am personally committed to answering God's call, telling God's story and changing his world. My personal mission is to lead people to Jesus, to build spiritual champions out of ordinary people, and to establish multiplying churches. That mission was God's assignment to the last church I pastored, but it became individual and personal as I pursued it along with the rest of the congregation.

In my previous Kingdom assignment, I pastored the congregation of First Baptist Church, Aztec, New Mexico, a mission-focused group of saints in Northwest New Mexico, for just over ten years. Before that, I pastored Hillcrest Baptist Church, Big Spring, Texas for four and a half years. Previous to pastoring, I served as an associate pastor in several areas during 8 1/2 years of service with First Baptist Church, West Palm Beach, Florida. God has been good and gracious throughout my ministry.

My education includes a Bachelor of Science degree in communications from the University of Texas at Austin; a Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas; and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary (now Gateway Seminary), formerly in Mill Valley, Calif., and now in Ontario, Calif. My successful and fruitful doctoral project focused upon strengthening marriages.

Over the years, I have gained a varied background in corporate and instructional video production, radio and audio production, as well as serving as both an associate pastor, senior pastor and interim pastor. I have served in full-time Gospel ministry for 33 years, including other roles as an associate pastor for broadcast ministries, associate pastor/minister to single adults, associate pastor for pastoral care, senior pastor of two congregations, and as a state missionary. I pastored for 15 of those years.

I have experience with marital and premarital counseling in a spiritual setting. I am certified in Family Coaching, trained in administering and interpreting Prepare/Enrich marriage profiles, certified as an I.C.P.C. Basic Law Enforcement Chaplain, trained leadership coaching, pastoral crisis intervention and operational stress first aid. I am committed to the Bible and to the ideals and doctrine of Southern Baptists. I have served my denomination at the local, state, and national levels.

Inside and outside the church, I have worked in the fields of graphic design, public relations, podcasting, social media, mobile app development, live broadcast television, video production, sound reinforcement (audio systems), audio visual systems, studio and theatrical lighting, technical facility design and installations, and more. I have worked up and down the ladder of responsibility.

I have been been married to my wife, Susan, for 38 years. I have four grown, Christian children (three daughters and a son) and one grandson. I chose to follow Jesus Christ at nine years of age and have continued growing in that relationship for the past 50 years. I am an active member of First Baptist Church of West Albuquerque. It never gets old.

I am available for supply preaching, teaching and speaking opportunities. I also conduct consultations, workshops and retreats for church groups, deacons, and search committees. If God allows, I would enjoy the opportunity to serve you and your church as a resource in accomplishing God's Great Commission purpose.
